About this event

When a submarine is named after the state with some of the best motorcycle riding in America, there's only one thing to do: create a custom Harley-Davidson® to mark the occasion.

This is an exclusive invitation to join us at Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson, New London, CT on Thursday, January 31st, 2019 from 5p to 8p (doors open at 4p). This event highlights the coming together of "Man and Machine." As part of the commissioning of the USS South Dakota (790), this kickoff event will honor the sailors of the USS South Dakota as well as all active duty military. In addition, we will also be honoring those who built the USS South Dakota submarine. The employees of General Dynamics Electric Boat of Groton and New London will be special attendees who successfully build the finest submarines in the "submarine capital of the world," Groton, Connecticut.

We are rolling out the red carpet Harley® style for this one of a kind event, and we'd love to have you here! Come from work, come from the road, come as you are! RSVP today as this event has limited availability!

Thursday January 31st 5P - 8P Invitation Only (Electric Boat Employees Welcome with reservation, limited availability)

Food is courtesy of South Dakota Navy League and Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson prepared by RD86 of New London.

As alcohol is being served at this event, we ask that it be adult only. If coming with a plus one, please select two tickets.

On view for a limited time only will be the Commemorative H-D Street Glide®. One side of the bike features the state-of-the-art USS South Dakota submarine that is being commissioned now. The other half of the motorcycle pays tribute to the legendary battleship USS South Dakota which served in World War II. The motorcycle was airbrushed by internationally renowned artist Mickey Harris, the very same artist that painted the 1956 Ford Thunderbird Medal of Honor car, on permanent display at Mike's Famous®. This will be the only time these one of a kind vehicles will be on display together for this special occasion. The crew of the USS South Dakota, representatives of the Harley-Davidson® Motor Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, public officials from South Dakota, Connecticut and more, will be some of the VIP guests in attendance. In fact, the artist himself, Mickey Harris, will be here to celebrate this unique event. All we need is YOU to make the evening complete.

The evening will include a food + beverage station, door prizes + more! Guests can also experience the rumble and roar of a Harley® on our JUMPSTART™. No riding experience necessary! This is the event to start off the year right....and not to be missed!

The Commemorative Street Glide® will then be on its way to be displayed at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame in South Dakota. A bike ignition key will remain on board the submarine ceremonially and as a reminder that any USS SOUTH DAKOTA licensed sailors can ride the bike when visiting Sturgis, South Dakota! The motorcycle will stand ready as the crew's official motorcycle and help build bonds between the Sailors, South Dakota and the greater New London, Groton, CT community.
